I like teaching math, but I really, really love teaching physics. It will be good to get back to it. I am teaching a independent study in nuclear engineering, which, at least at the start, contains a great deal of elementary nuclear physics. I am enjoying it.
It is fascinating how a deeper scientific understanding of the beauty of the universe pushes some to God and pushes other away.
That's great! I, for one, would love to see some blog posts from you about nuclear physics, the challenges you find while teaching, and so forth.
ReplyDeleteJeffrey,
ReplyDeleteYes I plan on posting more discussions of my physics classes when I get back to my old department.
Yeah, nuclear is a blast (NPIntended). Predicted the g.s. spin-parity of O-17 (3/2+), talked through that with s-1/2, p-3/2, p-1/2, d-5/2, explaining all that. Then asked the class to predict Ar-37. Of course, they said 7/2-, but it's really 3/2+...lots of good times finding out why.
